A. Introduction

The manual briefly teach the users how to install and use the SopCast software.

Anyone who is interested in video streaming can download SopCast and try it. Now the software is free for use. Anyone can get the lastest software copy from our site.

B. System Requirement

To run the SopCast Software, the following requirement is needed:

1. Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Linux. See detail.

2. At least 64M System Memory, 128M System Memory is recommended.

3. At least 10M Harddisk space.

4. Install Microsoft Media Player 9.0 above RealPlayer or other media player which can play streaming.

C. Install and Uninstall

Current SopCast provide two kinds of program, SopCast and Webplayer (ocx) plugin. SopCast include 3 component, SopPlayer, SopServer and WebPlay. SopPlayer for viewer, SopServer for broadcaster and WebPlayer for web viewer.

1. Install ocx plugin

This client is designed for web viewer. It include only a WebPlayer.
Download SopCastOcx from http://www.sopcast.com/download/SopCastOcx.zip. After unpack it with Winzip or Winrar to a directory with the default SopCastOcx, run setup.exe.

2. Uninstall ocx plugin

Uninstall ocx by click "uninstall" in program menu.

3. Install SopCast

This file includes SopPlayer, SopServer and WebPlay.

Download SopCast.zip from http://www.sopcast.com/download/SopCast.zip . Unpack it with Winzip or Winrar to a directory and run Setup-SopCast-version.exe to setup with default choices. The WebPlayer will be installed automatically also.

4. Uninstall SopCast

Uninstall SopCast by click "uninstall" in program menu.

D. New Function

1. Channel Classifications

This is a new function. In the SopCast latest version, there is a subscription concept. Registered users can subscribe channels that need "authorization". Without subscription, you are not allowed to view these channels. The choice , whether or not place the properties "view before subscribe" , is decided by the channel owners.

2. Broadcasting Group

Broadcasting Group is a group of channels. Channel need broadcasting must be added to at least a broadcasting group. The broadcasting group can be a public group, or a private group managed by others. Of course the channel must be permitted before adding to a private group. If you like, you can also apply for a broadcasting group and put your own channel to this broadcasting group.

With the broadcasting group, you can make a interest group, movie group for example, put the movie fans' channel together and make a movie network share group. Very interesting, right?

Channel subscription is based on the broadcasting group.

3. User Classifications

In the new version, we also classify the users as general user, channel user, group administrator.

A new register user is a general user who can subscribe channel and view the subscribed channels, the public channels and edit his registered information.

After applying a channel, the user will become a channel user who can edit the registered channel's information and can put the channel to a broadcasting group.

The channel user can become a group administrator by applying for a broadcasting group. After the group is permitted by the system administrator, he can manage his broadcasting group, for example, for a authorized group, permit or deny some channel to join.

E. View a channel

1. First register a new user and login.

2. Installed the SopCast or SopCast WebPlayer.

3. Select the channel menu, and click the channel name you want to view.

4. Subscribe Channels

Login in with your sopcast username, click " My Sop" in main menu, and click " Subscribe Channel" enter subscribe channel page.

F. Broadcasting a channel

Broadcasting a channel need 3 steps:

1. Register a channel - 〉 2. Join the channel to a broadcasting group - 〉 3. Start to broadcast

The whole process can also select "MySop" and follow the wizard.

Click "MySop" -> "register channel ", you will see a wizard window.

1. Register channel

Channel Name ( Required ): This is the channel name.

Channel Password ( Required ): This is the password you need to manage this channel. Please remerber this password, or you maybe lost the right to manage this channel.

Password Confirm ( Required ): Confirm the channel's password.

Visible ( Required ): public channel can be list on SopCast channel list. If you choose a private channel, the channel isn't shown on SopCast, you can add your channel on your own website (how to). or refer to the page http://vivio.weedns.com/channel/.

Channel Type ( Required ): Select a channel type, like entertainment, sports, regeral, etc.

From ( Required ): Select the location where to broadcast the channel.

Channel Language ( Required ): Select the language for the channel content

Brief description ( Required ): Here you can introduce the channel's content and it is the best way to let others know your channels. You can fill the form as the hint. Email address here is for easy way to let other users to write to you.

After submit, the process for registering a channel finished and come to the next step: Join the broadcasting Group.

Please remember every registered channel have a identical ID ( also called channel number).

2. Join the broadcasting channel

As the above picture, the process for the registering channel has finished and result in a √ before the words "1 registering a channel".

As this picture shown, the channel already joined a group "Public Group 公开组", and want to join another broadcasting group. Here, "24.Soccer-Live"

The words after a broadcasting group, like "need authorized", "public" means the limitation for this group. For example, "24.Soccer-Live", you must be permitted before join this group.

After join a broadcasting group, you can broadcast a channel then. You need download the SopServer, where to download and install please see c.3 .

3. Broadcast the channel

After finished join a broadcasting group, there is a √ to indicate the process finished. The next shows the interface for the SopServer running.

3.1. My Server

3.1.1 Source

Users can have 3 ways to make a stream source, file, directory or stream.

a. Playing files

Select the file, click the 'open' button to select the file. The program will help you to build a local media server with a single file or a group files. " Loop " means how to handle the files after it finished, stop it or restart it from the beginning.

Now we support 4 kind of file type, *.asf/*.wmv , *.rm/*.rmvb ,mp3, *.spl
Note : For a media player can play the list successfully, *.asf or *.wmv is recommended .

b. Directory

If you select a directory including media file, SopServer will search all supported media files in the dir or sub_dir, and generate sop_playlist.spl file automatically. SopServer use the spl file to broadcast all these media files. You can modify it to meet your requirement.

*.spl format :

"program name xxx" "directory\filename" write a file in one line

For example:

"movie clip 1" "c:\1.asf"
"movie clip 1" "d:\2.wmv"
"my mp3" "d:\3.mp3"

b. Select Stream, and fill the another stream server address and you can build a local media server to broadcast a streaming content. The stream can be like this, mms://10.39.0.64/mystream, assume, media servers is using the IP address10.39.0.64.

3.1.2 Channel

a. Channel ID Fill with channel ID for your applied channel. (Required)

b. Name Channel Name (Optional)

3.1.3 Server

a. Server Address : The server IP address for registering your channel. You can use the default.

b. Username and Password : The username and password with which you apply the channel

c. Server Port : The local server port. You can also use the default. If conflict with the other service, you can change to a free port. You MUST PERMIT others to connect this port on your firewall.

Fill the necessary information, and click Start then you can see the buffer number in the status bar. Waiting for the 100%, you can see you channel name in the channel list.

SopServer has another function. The broadcaster can view his own content while broadcasting. Click the “monitor” button in the right of the Start button, you can see the broadcasting content with the local Media Player. Of course you can also record the content by click the Record button with the ASF format. Of course, it is only usefully for re-broadcast another media server's content.

G. Option

Here you can select the interface language. We provide 3 languages, 简体中文, 繁体中文 and English.

If you want to play multiple channels on one computer, just tick off the “Allow only one instance of Sopcast” checkbox, and start more sopcast instances to play your channels.

The default service port of SopServer is 3902 , you may change to other value.

Whether to update automatically can also config here.
